Geochemical Speciation, Ecological Risk and Assessment of Main Sources of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs) in Stream Sediments from Nile River in Egypt

Studying and understanding the complexity interactions of different factors influencing stream sediment quality is necessary for development successful water management strategies. This study aims to evaluate level contamination by potentially toxic elements (PTEs) (As, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, Zn) sediments Nile River. During spring 2019, river were sampled at 23 sites along For each sample, one aliquot was digested in aqua regia analyzed ICP-MS pseudo-total concentration, while another aliquot, sequential extraction procedures applied determine chemical speciation. Compositional data analysis (CoDa) k-means recognize contribution natural anthropogenic sources, pollution indices (EF, RAC) guidelines (SQGs) assess ecological risk biotic species. The results reveal that such as V Fe, found high concentrations almost all samples (Cr up 739 mg/kg, Mn 1942 507 Fe 98,519 mg/kg), have a origin, Cu (up 69 Ni 88 Co 42 mg/kg) As 9.8 are linked both processes. Sequential shows and, some sites, Zn, most bioavailable elements. These present toxicity, remaining imply low-to-moderate risk.
